Give Opuni documents by 13 July - Court to AG

Former COCOBOD CEO, Dr Stephen Opuni Former COCOBOD CEO, Dr Stephen Opuni

The Attorney General has been given up to Friday, 13 July 2018, to furnish lawyers for former COCOBOD CEO, Dr Stephen Opuni, with all the necessary and relevant documents they intend to rely on in his prosecution, so as to ensure the hearing of the substantive case is commenced on 16 July 2018.

At the last adjournment, lawyers of Mr Opuni argued that the state had failed to supply them with all the relevant documents, in direct contravention of the Supreme Court ruling on the proper interpretation of article 19(2)(e) and (g) of the constitution.

Even though the state argues that the said documents are not in their possession, the defence team insists they cannot argue their case without the said documents.

Trial Judge Justice C.J. Hornyenuga has, therefore, ordered the police investigator on the case to contact relevant persons at COCOBOD and retrieve all the said documents.

The case was adjourned to 16 July 2018.

Dr Opuni and businessman Seidu Agongo have pleaded not guilty to all the 27 charges leveled against them including willfully causing financial loss to the state.
