People living in and around Dzorwulu and Alajo have expressed disappointment in the slow pace of the registration process at various National Identification Card centers in their communities.

This according to them, this has become a big challenge for them; hence many of them are forced to rush to the centres at 2am to queue.

They alleged that officials only register the people on their protocol list.

“The exercise has been very slow. As at 2 am, I left my wife and children at home to queue and it still hasn’t gotten to my turn. I’ve also left my work and I am here because of this exercise. We were here and people just bumped in and have been attended to. NIA must reshuffle their registration officials and also increase the number of staff they post to various centers to work” one man who didn't want to disclose his name said.

Others who have gone through the process weeks ago and are waiting for their cards to be handed to them were equally not happy in the delay of the process.

One of them said, “I was done with the registration about two weeks ago and I showed up today because I want my card. When I got here, I was told my card is still not ready so I should come back on Thursday for it".

"When I queried the officials, they said they are facing a minor problem with their machines so they are working on it. With other centers, they don’t encounter such problems because, as soon as you are done with the process, they give you your card", he added.

Residents have called on NIA to increase officials at the various registration centers so that persons who get shortlisted for the day can be worked on.

An appeal was made to the government to extend the one-month duration exercise so that every Ghanaian can partake in this exercise.

“Though the process is okay, it is slow. The time allocated for this registration is very short. People have queued since dawn, someone is number 90, he went home and have returned and it is still not his turn".

"I think it will be best if the government extends the time allocated for this project, or they increase the officials working at various centers to increase productivity”, another registrant said.
