Future NDC gov’t will extradite Aisha Huang to face prosecution – Ablakwa

A future National Democratic Congress (NDC) government will trigger an extradition process for Aisha Huang to face prosecution for illegally mining in Ghana, the Minority Spokesperson for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudjeto Ablakwa said.

Mr Ablakwa’s disclosure comes on the back of an attempt by Ghana’s Senior Minister Yaw Osafo Marfo’s justification of the decision to discontinue the prosecution of Aisha Huang for illegally mining in Ghana.

Aisha Huang was deported to her home country China late last year.

Speaking at a Town Hall meeting abroad, Mr Osafo Marfo argued vehemently that jailing the ‘Galamsey Queen’ would not have solved Ghana’s teething economic challenges.

“Today, the main company that is helping develop the infrastructure system in Ghana is Sinohydro, it is a Chinese Company. It is the one that is going to help process our bauxite and provide about $2 billion to us,” he said.

“So, when there are these kinds of arrangements, there are other things behind the scenes. Putting that lady [Aisha] in jail in Ghana is not going to solve your economic problems.

“It is not going to make you happy or me happy, that’s not important, the most important thing is that she has been deported from Ghana…” he added.

Commenting on the development Saturday on News File, Mr Ablakwa said former President Mahama has resolved to extradite Aisha Huang to Ghana to face the full rigours of the Ghanaian laws.

“I am saying this with the backing of my flagbearer [former President Mahama] and my party that the NDC will trigger the extradition of Aisha Huang to face prosecution in future NDC government,” he stated.
