Coca-Cola workers on sit-down strike over MD’s removal

Workers of Coca-Cola Ghana Limited have begun a sit-down strike following the refusal by the management of Equatorial Coca-Cola West Africa to reinstate the sacked MD for Coca-Cola Ghana, Mr Seth Adu-Baah.

The sit-down strike comes a few days after the workers demonstrated against the removal of the MD.

Production has been halted as a result of the strike with workers wearing red to work and chanted slogans.

The Local Workers Union of the Industrial and Commercial Workers Union (ICU) is said to be leaving no stone unturned to ensure that Seth Adu-Baah is reinstated while a planned redundancy is stopped.

They have already accused Felix Gomez, the MD for Equatorial Coca-Cola West Africa, of instigating Mr Adu-Baah’s removal.

The Chairman of the Local Workers Union of Coca-Cola, Abdulai Saani Mohammed, said: “Today, nothing is going on; both production and all, they are all here chanting, singing and praising everything in favour of Seth Adu-Baah.”

He noted that the management did not come clear on the removal of Mr Adu-Baah when they held a meeting, adding: “It seems they are not telling us the truth.”

“Seth Adu-Baah has done tremendous, worked with his heart; at least, everybody has enough witness about him. For the past two years that this man came, he has overturned the business, so, every Ghanaian loves him. Other than that, the business would have collapsed”, said Mr. Mohammed.

The Local ICU is calling for investigations into the matter else they would continue with the sit-down strike.
