Be serious with work in Parliament, stop being late - Speaker to MPs

The Speaker of Parliament Prof. Aaron Mike Oquaye has condemned the lateness of Members of Parliament (MPs) to work.

The Speaker at sitting On Thursday said the late attendance affected the smooth flow of business in the House.

The sitting was officially supposed to start at 10 a.m. but it started as the time the meeting started, only 26 MPs out of the 275 MPs were in the chamber to transact business on behalf of the nation.

He therefore asked legislators who were present during his submission, to advise their colleagues to consider the work of the plenary before any other thing.

The worried Speaker charged the MPs to take their obligation as MPs seriously adding, ‘’if we take our nation seriously, we will take this obligation seriously because it is by the combined effort of all of us… that there can be progress and development in this country.’’

He also used the opportunity to advise new entrants to come early in order for them to learn proceedings of the House.

This is not the first time the Speaker has complained bitterly about lateness of MPs. He raised a similar concern on the floor of the House On June 18, 2018.
