Rob Brant withdraws from Habib Ahmed fight through injury

The middleweight contest between Ghana’s contender, Habib “Wild Hurricane”Ahmed, and former world champion, Rob Brant, has been cancelled due the latter withdrawing because of torn biceps.

Ahmed, a former super middleweight world title challenger, and Brant were billed to face off in a co-feature of Top Rank’s January 11 ESPN card but the bout was called off after the American sustained an injury.

The fight was expected to give the Ghanaian fighter an opportunity to redeem his image at the world stage after his abysmal performance against Gilberto Ramirez in 2018 when he challenged the Mexican.

Ahmed’s inability to make his ring return since beating Juan De Angel in May 2019 would prolong his ring return having been inactive for the past eight months.

He was hoping to make it three consecutive victories since losing to Ramirez having already defeated Sunday Ajuwa and Juan De Angel.

Brant on the other hand was hoping to make his much anticipated return since losing his World Boxing Association’s (WBA) welterweight belt to Ryota Murata in July 2019.

Meanwhile, Top Rank have announced that Steve Nelson would face Cem Kilic in a 10-round match between the undefeated super middleweights in place of Brant-Ahmed.
