Reigning WBO super bantamweight champion Isaac Dogboe is set to make a return to the ring in December after a successful defence of his belt.

Dogboe made another strong statement by blasting out Japanese challenger Hidenori Otake in round one last Saturday at the Gila River Arena in Glendale, Arizona.

After that eye-catching performance his adviser, Mike Altamura regarding Dogboe’s next move said, “potentially December 1st or December 8th.”

And Dogboe has made it clear that he’d like an opportunity to unify the belts at 122, perhaps say against WBC belt-holder Rey Vargas.

“I would hope so, Top Rank has been able to do business with Golden Boy so I know Vargas is recovering from an injury. So we’ll see what happens. We’re ready for the big fights in the world so hopefully something can be figured out. I know the kid’s hungry for it,” Altamura said to BoxingScene.com.

Dogboe won his title back in April by stopping Jesse Magdaleno and it’s not that he wins but the emphatic manner in which he does so.

Altamura points out that in Otake, “Isaac fought a guy who had never been knocked down let alone stopped in 36 fights and absolutely obliterated him in 138 seconds. So I think he made a really great statement but more than that, I think that once again his personality showed on TV. He’s a guy that has one of those personalities that can transcend the sport.”

In addition to being a heavy-handed, entertaining fighter, Dogboe is one that is also armed with charisma.

“He’s a very boyish looking kid but he’s a destroyer inside the ropes and he’s filled with personality,” Altamura continued. “He’s different, in an era where so many guys are plastic, robotic and tedious when they speak, he’s different.”
