Azumah Nelson Fight Night: Boxers to settle scores Saturday

After almost a year of showboating and shadow-boxing, 10 of the nation’s elite fighters will assemble at the Bukom Boxing Arena in Accra on Saturday for the real deal.

Aside fighting for the bragging rights, honour, improved ratings and grounds for possible world title shots, the pugilists are set to appease their fans after a year-long ranting.

In fact, some scores could have been settled long ago but for the heavy downpour on December 9 last year which made the unroofed Bukom Boxing Arena uninhabitable.

Interestingly, promoters Heta Hemann Promotions, are praying for a favourable weather this time to enable Accra to roar once again.

This will be the fifth in the series of what has become known as the ‘Azumah Nelson Fight Nights’ in honour of the boxing legend, Azumah Nelson.

Saturday’s event, dubbed: ‘Azumah Nelson Fight Night 5 Round 2’, is expected to be a cracker, considering the public spats and nuances from the fighters and the tight nature of the fights.

In the battle of the undefeated, Emmanuel Martey will face name sake Emmanuel Anim in a Commonwealth supermiddleweight eliminator.

Martey, popularly called Mayweather by fans, claims he is untouchable, having won all 12 of his professional bouts as he comes up against Anim, alias HorsePower, who has vowed to make mince meat of him.

“Martey is only a talkative; he only knows how to talk and make noise but on the night, between the two of us alone on the canvas I will not only shut him up but I will knock him out,” he predicted.

Another thrilling encounter will see Michael Ansah, alias One Bullet, clashing with Felix Ajom, aka Alvaro, for the interim national super featherweight title.

Reigning national lightweight champion, Nathaniel Kpakpo 'Punisher' Allotey (11-0, 8 KOs), will also stage a comeback for the first time since winning the title on the Azumah Nelson Fight Night 3 in June last year against Ashaiman-based Abraham 'Ebo Electric' Afful (8-3-1, 8 KOs) in another thriller.
