The New Patriotic Party (NPP) will implement a 10-year power sector master plan in an effort to end the power crisis that has plagued the country for years now.

The plan is expected to increase the energy generation mix to solve the crisis in the medium-term.

This is part of the party’s plan if voted for in the December 7 elections. It was made known during a lecture delivered by its Vice Presidential Candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, in Accra on Thursday, September 8.

Delivered on the theme ‘The State of the Ghanaian Economy – A Foundation of Concrete or Straw’, the public lecture pointed out some of the factors contributing to the decline of the Ghanaian economy.

As part of the 10-year master plan, Dr Bawumia said, “we will move rapidly to the adoption of a distributed solar energy solution for all government and public buildings”.

The former Deputy Central Bank Governor added: “We will create an environment of clear policies, rules and regulations and provide adequate incentives to attract private sector investments”.

He criticised government’s resort to “expensive” thermal plants to solve the energy problem, stressing “we will increase the proportion of renewable energy, solar [and] biogas”.
