The Adanwomase Kente Weavers and Sellers Association in the Ashanti Region has asked government to consider the hand-woven kente industry in the roll-up of the ‘One District, One Factory’ policy.

According to the group, the kente industry is one area where hundreds of jobs can be created for the youth in the country.

"Your Excellency, the hand-woven kente industry is one area hundreds of meaningful jobs can be created for the youth in the country through the 'One District, One Factory' initiative, which your office can take into consideration,” the group has stated.

The association made the appeal when they presented President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo with a uniquely woven kente cloth in honour of the fulfilment of three major campaign promises made to the people of Ghana.

Kwame Nyame, secretary of the association, led executives of the association to present the cloth, named ‘Oseadeyo Akufo-Addo’, explained that the gesture is to honour the President for fulfilling his promises of a Free Senior High School policy, the restoration of teacher and nursing training allowances, and the setting up of the Office of the Special Prosecutor.

"Upon these three major political campaign promises fulfilled within one year of Nana Addo's presidency, the Adanwomase Kente Weavers and Sellers have designed kente named Oseadeyo Akufo-Addo in honour of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo"

According to the association, the honour is to spur the President on to continue working hard to deliver on other promises such as the ‘One District, One Factory’, and ‘One Village, One Dam’ policies.

"We aimed at honouring your Excellency Nana Addo to continue working hard to fulfil 'One District, One Factory' and 'One Village, One Dam' political campaign promises made to help create millions of meaningful jobs for the youth in the country".

President Nana Addo, in his response, emphasised the importance of the kente industry to the socio-economic development of the country, and his government's efforts to do everything in its power to ensure that the industry thrives.

He said he wants to be remembered as a president who fulfilled all promises made to the people of Ghana.

This, according to the President, has been the biggest motivation for his government to deliver to the satisfaction of Ghanaians.

He was grateful to the association for the honour done him.
