GAA NATIONAL CIRCUIT TOUR TO HOST WORLD ATHLETICS DAY

The Ghana Athletics Association wishes to announce that the 2nd Stop on the National Circuit Tour will play host to the International Association of Athletics Federation’s (IAAF) World Athletics Day on 10th May, 2014 at the Essipon Sports Stadium in Takoradi, Western Region.

Now in its 19th year, World Athletics Day (WAD) is the sports’ annual worldwide festival of youth. The goal of the IAAF World Athletics Day is to promote Athletics to the youth worldwide, and to firmly establish an important link between the youth, our Sport (Athletics) and environmental conservation.

WAD is part of a new IAAF Social Responsibility project called “Athletics for a Better World” or ATBW. Being a global sport means accepting global responsibility: to use the power and reach of athletics to make a positive difference in the world.

In pursuit of IAAF’s goals, the GAA wishes to celebrate World Athletics day in conjunction with its 2nd stop on the National Circuit Tour at the Essipon Stadium in Takoradi on 10th May, 2014. Activities begin at 8am prompt.

Over 300 athletes are expected to join in the celebrations by competing in selected events, with special competitions being organized for Children aged 13-15 years from schools and communities in Takoradi.

Also, in implementing the IAAF Green Project, and as a fundamental value to ensure the Earth’s future, the Association will build the awareness of the youth on issues concerning sustainable development and environmental protection and also get the athletes involved in trees planting around the Essipon Stadium.
