Athletes arrive for rlg Ghana Grand Prix in Kumasi

International track and field athletes have started arriving for Friday’s 2012 rlg Ghana Grand Prix in Kumasi.

The event which is second edition, is hosting over 45 foreign athletes and 60 locally based Ghanaian athletes in an international athletics competition at the Baba Yara Stadium, Kumasi.

The Ghana Athletics Association, organisers of the event in a release copied to GNA Sports said 35 of the expected foreign athletes have already arrived in the country.

They include those from America made up of Nichole Denby (100m hurdles), Alie Israel (100m/200m), Shericka Mozell (100m/100m hurdles), Jarod Tobler (Long Jump) and Terrell Wilks (100m/200m).

Ghana’s foreign-based athletes, many of who were in Benin for the African championships will also be competing in Friday’s meet.

The 2012 rlg Ghana Grand Prix is taking place under the distinguished patronage of President John Evans Atta Mills, and forms part of the Association’s efforts at revitalizing athletics in Ghana, and also to encourage younger athletes to take an interest in the sport.

The Grand Prix is a one-day professionally organized international athletics event, sponsored by rlg Communications. Other partners are GCNET, Ghana AIDS Commission, Ghana Television, GBC Radio, Daily Graphic and the Daily Express Newspaper.**
