President Samia Suluhu Hassan will address the parliament on Thursday, April 22, 2021, Speaker Job Ndugai said on Monday.

He told the House during the morning session on Monday that all Members of Parliament (MPs) - who have been planning to travel out of Dodoma – must out their plans on hold until after the President’s address.

“The President will address the Parliament on Thursday from 4pm….Those MPs who are making arrangements to leave the Capital City, must postpone such plans until that day passes,” he said.

This will be President Hassan’s first address since she ascended to the presidency following the death in office of her predecessor, John Magufuli last month.

Dr Magufuli succumbed to heart complications on March 17 and Samia Suluhu Hassan was sworn in on March 19 to become Tanzania’s sixth phase president.

The President will be addressing the Parliament at a time when the ruling party – Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) - was finalizing plans for a special emergency meeting which will be held on April 30 and which will elevate her to become its [the CCM] national chairperson.
