Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan on Tuesday, June 15 sacked two senior officials after militiamen harassed street vendors in the country's Morogoro region, situated about 200 kilometres west of the commercial capital Dar es Salaam.

A statement from the Directorate of Presidential Communications said the president revoked the appointment of the Morogoro district commissioner, Bakari Msulwa and the Morogoro Municipal Council Executive Director, Sheilla Lukuba.

President Hassan said the two officials had failed to supervise operations of the militiamen, the statement noted.

Hassan said she recently saw on television militiamen harassing street vendors who were doing their businesses outside the municipality's main bus terminal.

"The harassment of street vendors is not acceptable," said the Head of State.
