The South African Football Federation (SAFA) has announced that over 200 applications have been received for the vacant Bafana Bafana head coach position.

Molefi Ntseki was sacked as head coach last month after South Africa failed to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations to be staged in Cameroon next year.

South Africa lost their final group game against Sudan 2-0 in Khartoum to finish third in the AFCON qualifiers behind Ghana and Sudan to miss out on the competition.

SAFA Technical Committee Chairperson, Jack Malukeke has confirmed over 150 to 200 CVs have been received, ready to the shortlisted by the committee.

"We have received a lot of CVs from abroad and some from locally", Malukeke told SAFM.

"We have about 150 to 200 CVs for the vacant Bafana Bafana job. Tomorrow we have a meeting to discuss the shortlist of five".

Al Ahly head coach Pitso Mosimane has been linked to the vacant job.

According to reports, the SAFA will fly to Cairo to convince the former Mamelodi Sundowns coach to take up the job.

Jack Malukeke debunked those reports in the media, stating SAFA has made no contact with the CAF Champions League winner for the job.

"I have read reports that we are flying to Egypt this week to meet with Pitso, but that is not the case".

"We welcome all the names that have applied and those that have been mentioned in the media"

Former Bafana Bafana forward and Coach Amazulu coach Benni McCarthy has been also linked to the job. McCarthy has shown interest in leading the team should he be given the job.

Malukeke added that they hope to announce a new coach by the end of the month.
