Former Black Stars striker Joetex Asamoah Frimpong has rejected claims that the team’s successive failure is down to a spell cast on them by players of the previous AFCON winning teams.

Since winning the fourth AFCON in 1982, the Black Stars have tried without success to annex a fifth title.

Since 2008, the country has made it to semi-final of six AFCON tournaments with two of them ending in finals.

Some members of the AFCON winning teams have in various interviews said that until promises made to them are fulfilled, the country’s trophy search will continue to be elusive.

But Frimpong says those claims are not factual as other pressing reasons can be attributed to the failure.

He told Adeiso-based Tru FM that lack of patriotism and a shift in the country’s talent production line are the reasons why the team struggles at tournaments.

Frimpong urged the GFA and government to work on restructuring Ghana football and getting it back to its high level.

"I don't believe it is a curse. The old players played without money but they used their effort and it was what determined the success. But today everybody is going for money, not for a trophy and today's style of play has changed from the old players. They should do something about it”.

Between 2005 to 2009, Joetex Asamoah Frimpong made 11 appearances and bagged 2 goals for Ghana.

He was a member of the 2006 AFCON team.
