Wild jubilation over Stars victory

Kumasi, Sept 4, GNA - There was frenzy and spontaneous deafening jubilations across the Kumasi Metropolis after the referee whistled for the end of the Black Stars-Cranes of Uganda World Cup qualifier at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.

Drivers of lorries and cars tooted their horns loudly while jubilant residents and fans in the Metropolis could be heard from far and near shouting for joy and singing praises for the success of the gallant Stars.

The various streets from the stadium to Kejetia and Adum the main business centres and other suburbs were flooded with jubilant fans who streamed in groups amidst singing, dancing and discussions of every aspects of the match.

Most of the fans including the aged, children and the sick trooped outside from watching the match on their television sets immediately after the match as they jumped and clapped onto the air and hugged each other to celebrate the victory achieved on a convincing score line. The charged atmosphere suggested that the celebration could travel deep into the night as most of the fans had already arranged for parties at drinking spots and restaurants to celebrate the victory even before the match was played.

Before the match, some fans were disappointed when they were unable to enter the stadium to cheer their idol players since the stadium place was full beyond the capacity before the commencement of the match. The Ghana Football Association (GFA) had to call in to radio stations in the Metropolis to discourage fans from further going to the stadium. They were prevailed upon to stay out and watch the match on their TV sets so as to prevent any disaster at the stadium.

The message even though unpalatable did not dampen the hearts of the anxious football fans who then vowed to witness every aspect of the history making of the Stars whether on the field or on television. At the end of the game Ghana's Black Stars beat their Ugandan counterparts the cranes 2-0 with the goals coming from midfielder Michael Essien in the 10th minute and Mathew Amoah in the 13th minutes respectively.
