Renowned Ghanaian boxing judge Ataa Eddie Pappoe was one of three officials who scored the WBC world title bout between Mairis Briedis and Marco Huck in Germany on Saturday night.

Eddie Pappoe, a former ring official and current board member of the Ghana Boxing Authority, watched the fight with two other judges from Italy – Massimo Barrovecchio and Guido Cavalleri.

On the night, Cruiserweight Briedis (22-0, 18 KOs) claimed the vacant title with a one-sided twelve round unanimous decision over two-time world champion Huck (40-4-1, 27 KOs) at the Westfalenhalle in Dortmund.

In a bout that failed to deliver the excitement hoped for, Briedis, the 32-year-old Latvian frustrated the normally aggressive German Huck with his power and movement. Huck, who for the most part was taken out of his game, tried to up the pressure late to no avail. In addition to the WBC green belt, Briedis claimed Huck’s IBO belt.

The judges scored the bout 116-111, 117-110, 118-109.

The title became vacant when Tony Bellew moved to heavyweight to fight and defeat David Haye last month.

Ataa Eddie Pappoe is scheduled to return to Accra on Monday, April 3.
