Uganda sure of beating Ghana in AFCON qualifiers

Uganda's coach, Milutin 'Micho' Sredojevic is promising Ghana's Black Stars a very rough ride as their paths cross in the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers which moves into gear next month.

With the preliminary round over, the stage is now set for teams to begin their quest for places at next year’s Africa Cup of Nations to be held in Morocco.

Moments after qualifying for the final qualifying series, the Serbian coach, nicknamed 'Michu', sent the clearest message to the Stars, who he thinks are the favourites of the Group E: "We have not been to the Nations Cup tournament since 1978, so we are itching to be in Morocco and will put up a fight to get there. My players are really fired and making Uganda proud will be the motivating drive to qualify from the group.

“Ghana’s Black Stars are the team to beat in our group. However, having come this far, my players are fired up for an African Cup of Nations participation after almost 30 years of missing out,” the Serbian coach said in an interview with the Uganda News Agency.

“Ghana should not think that it is going to be easy for them in our group. My men are fired up and are willing to die to make their nation proud,” said the coach hoping to be the man to return the Cranes to Africa’s biggest stage.

The Cranes, (whose best AFCON glory is a second place finish in 1978 where they were beaten by Ghana), advanced from the preliminary round with a 3-0 win over Mauritania and join Ghana, Guinea and Togo for the qualifiers.

They will be Ghana’s guests in either Accra or Kumasi on the opening day of the group qualifiers on the weekend of September 5 and 6 and then host the Stars in the penultimate match on the weekend of November 14 and 15.

With the preliminary round over, teams who have qualified can now prepare towards the qualifiers which have 28 countries drawn in groups of four, for the first and second positions from the groups, to book their places at AFCON 2015.

Two losers with the best results among the pack, will join the teams for the January 17 to February 8, 20
