Respected Zambian journalist and an influential social media activist for Zambian football, Puncherello Chama has urged their clubs to run after the signature of CK Akonnor following his departure from Kotoko.

Chama believes Akonnor’s coaching acumen must benefit Zambian football and their clubs, particularly Power Dynamos, must employ the gaffer.

Chama’s call came a few days after Akonnor and Asante Kotoko ended their Cinderella relationship just seven months into his three-year deal.

And Chama believes the next destination for the wonderful coach must be Zambia.

“If I were in the Power Dynamos’ Exco, I would have been on the Phone to Ghana the minute I heard CK Akunnor has been sacked by Asante Kotoko,” he wrote.

“He has played at the highest level in the Bundesliga and was exposed to the best of football.

“He led Kotoko into the group stage of the CAF Confederations Cup without a huge budget for players but identified players such as Yacouba Songne who cost Kotoko little.

“He seems to have an eye for talent and can help Power Dynamos improve their academy which has struggled to produce players ripe for Power over the years,” he added.

His ”Agro Football” with Kotoko is similar to Power Dynamos’ passing philosophy and more importantly, he has an understanding in African football.

“All in all he would be my choice,” he concluded.

Asante Kotoko announced CK Akonnor as the club’s technical director ahead of the appointment of Kjetil Zachariasen as the club’s new coach.

But Akonnor had rejected the position, insisting he was not employed as the technical director of the club but head coach and will not accept any other position apart from his original role as head coach.

Akonnor, a former skipper of Bundesliga side Wolfsburg and the Black Stars of Ghana was appointed on the 1st of October 2018 as head coach of Asante Kotoko.

He guided the club to stage an amazing outing in the CAF Confederation Cup campaign and has recently qualified the club to the CAF Champions League.

Akonnor’s sacking came as a shock to the fans of the club as well as pundits of the game as his performance with the club has been nothing but amazing.
