Stars host Sa Leone, Starlets v Gambia

THE senior national soccer team, the Black Stars, will begin their dream journey towards making a debut World Cup appearance in 2002 when they play host to Sierra Leone in a Group B qualifier at the Accra Stadium on Sunday.

In view of this, a blend of local and foreign-based professionals has been preparing feverishly for the past two weeks under head coach Giuseppe Dossena and his assistant, Abdul Razak. The match originally fixed for Freetown had to be rescheduled by FIFA due to the current political instability in that country. Come Sunday, Ghanaians expect the Stars to win emphatically to brighten their qualification chances.

?The national U-17 soccer team, Black Starlets, will host their Gambian counterparts in the second leg of the African youth championship qualifier at the Kumasi Stadium on Saturday. The Young Scorpions of The Gambia won the first leg 1-0 to put their Ghanaian counterparts in a tight corner to score not less than two goals without reply to keep their qualification dreams on course. Since returning from The Gambia a week ago, coaches Oti Akenten and Sillas Tetteh have been working tirelessly to sharpen all rough edges of the team to ensure a convincing victory on Saturday
