Right to Dream Academy has clinched the Charity of the Year Award at the GUBA Awards USA on Thursday evening at the A Taj Hotel in New York.

The Right to Dream Academy won the Award ahead of Alexis Miranda Foundation, The Distant Relatives, Africa Health Now and Ceciyaa Foundation.

The Academy, which has produced top players is also noted for shaping society by transforming the lives of the poor in our communities.

GUBA Awards seeks to reward, celebrate excellence and innovation of African individuals and organisation in the diaspora and Africa, working to the advancement, empowerment and progression of the African community in the Diaspora.

Following the success of GUBA UK over the past decade, GUBA Enterprise has extended internationally and taking root in the U.S to put the spotlight on the Diaspora within this pantheon community.

Founded in 1999, Right to Dream is an African football academy. Starting on a small scale, training just a few boys on a dust pitch in Accra, the Academy has evolved over the last 16 years to become a fully residential, centre of excellence, with over 90 students on scholarship from 7 African countries, at a purpose-built campus on the banks of the River Volta.

Since 2007, Right to Dream has produced over 20 graduates playing professional football in Europe. Some Right to Dream graduates have also received call-ups into Ghana’s National teams, from the Black Starlets(U-17) to the Black Stars.

Right to Dream has over 30 graduates studying at High Schools and Universities in the USA and UK.

In all, Right to Dream has helped to develop over 160 talented, young footballers – through a combination of football, education and character development.
