No Ghanaian club in CAF's 20 best clubs in Africa

Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak failed to make it to the top 20 clubs in Africa released by Caf on Friday.

The rankings, which is released every five years based on each club’s performance in their respective leagues, Caf Champions League and Confederation Cup did not capture any Ghanaian club as their poor performance in the continental tournaments played a huge role.

Since 2004, no Ghanaian club has won a continental trophy or reached the semifinals of either Caf Champions League or Confederation Cup as majority of them get eliminated in the preliminary round or first stage.

Congolese giants and Confederation Cup winners TP Mazembe topped the ranking as the best club in Africa, while Al Ahly and Zamalek of Egypt fame occupied second and third place respectively.

Sudanese giants Al Hilal and Al Merriekh who are located in one city (Omdurman) made the list but it was Hilal who found themselves in the first ten as they sit ninth while Merriekh landed 16th in the ranking. Former Ghana Premier League best player and topscorer Augustine Okrah featured for the two clubs between 2015 and 2017.

Also, Caf Champions League winners Wydad Casablanca of Morocco occupy 13th position.

Zambian giants Zesco United made a huge leap to occupy 15th position.
