Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central, has explained why he has been accusing ace investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas of controlling the Ghana Police Service.

According to Agyapong, in his quest to expose the ‘true’ side of Anas in his video ‘Who Watches the Watchman’, he contacted COP Adu-Poku and asked if he had received an amount of $75,000 from the journalist, but COP Adu-Poku denied Anas' allegation.

He said COP Frank Adu-Poku told him “the only time he saw Anas 'face-to-face' was when he was asked to go to the office of the investigative journalist at Dzorwulu, a suburb of Accra, for an interview when his name was pencilled for the position of Inspector General of Police (IGP)”.

Agyapong indicated that the revelation from COP Adu-Poku really proves that the three persons whose names were suggested as potential candidates for IGP were interviewed by Anas.

“Where I got those videos from, till now if you ask the guys to report the matter to the police they tell you point blank that they have no confidence in the police because they are all inclined to Anas,” he told Neat FM’s Adakabre Frimpong Manso on ‘Me Man Nti’ last Thursday February 7, 2019.

Background

The controversial legislator also in an interview with Net 2 TV on January 29, 2019, accused Anas of holding the hierarchy of the Ghana Police Service to ransom because he (Anas) vetted and appointed David Asante-Apeatu, the current IGP.

“Anas was the one who interviewed candidates to become the IGP. Can you imagine. If he is the one who recommended the current IGP, what can the IGP do to him?”

The Assin Central MP further stated that the actions of the police have led to the public not trusting them.

According to him, there are many people with information against Anas but have refused to talk due to their distrust of the police.

“I have a lot of people who have information, but they say they will never give it to the police. They said they don’t trust the police because Anas controls them,” Agyapong stated.
