I’m not interested in Black Stars job for now – Former Newcastle boss Chris Hughton

Former Newcastle and Norwich coach Chris Hughton has failed to rule out taking up the Black Stars job in the future.

Hughton’s name was mooted by a section of the public when the position became vacant following the FA’s failure to renew Kwasi Appiah’s contract.

The FA eventually settled on former Asante Kotoko coach C.K Akonnor as head coach of the five-time AFCON winners.

Speaking on the “The Ornstein & Chapman Podcast”, Hughton whose father is a Ghanaian said it will be an honour to coach the Black Stars but for now he is focused on club football.

He also failed to shut the door on the Irish national team which is his mother’s country.

“My biggest draw at the moment is the day-to-day club management. That’s what continues to excite me. The draw of affecting a team week-in-week-out but international football and particularly Ghana where my father is from and Ireland where my mum is something I think about but my real strength at this moment is the day-to-day working moments with clubs”.

Hughton has been without a coaching job since leaving Brighton in May last year.

Meanwhile, Black Stars coach CK Akonnor is set to announce his first call up in the coming days.

The squad is expected to have of some local players who have so far excelled in the Ghana Premier League.

Ahead of the call-up, former Asante Kotoko striker Eric Bekoe has called for the inclusion of Aduana Stars striker Yahaya Mohammed in the squad.
