Ghana league lagging behind in Africa - Felix Annan

Kumasi Asante Kotoko goalkeeper, Felix Annan, says Ghana needs to catch up fast with the rest of Africa in terms of the development of sporting facilities and improvement of the local league.
Annan said he made the observation after his side’s 1-1 draw with Tanzanian club Simba SC in a friendly encounter at the Uhuru Stadium in Dar es Salaam.

For him, there was more work to be done in terms of infrastructural development as far as the Ghanaian league was concerned and expressed the hope the people at the helm of affairs would take a second look at sports development in the country.

“When I look at how organised the Tanzanian league is and when I compare their facilities to ours I feel sad. It is obvious that we are lagging behind in terms of football development in Ghana. There is a lot more to be done as far as development is concerned in Ghana,” he said.

According to the shot stopper, saving a crucial penalty to enable his side to draw 1-1 with the Tanzanian side brought fond memories of his exploits in Zylofon Cash Ghana Premier League and, therefore, expressed the hope the Ghana premiership would be restored to normalcy soon.

“I really missed our league after the match. In fact, I remembered my achievements, especially in the last league, and I wished that those at the helm of affairs will fix the situation to bring back our league,” he told the Graphic Sports.

The Tanzanian champions invited the Porcupine Warriors for the international friendly as part of their annual Simba Day celebrations, which the club uses to unveil new players, award outstanding ones and play a friendly against an invited club mostly from East Africa.

Obed Owusu put Kotoko ahead in the first half but the host team got the equalising goal the 77th minute after which they were awarded a penalty. However, Annan produced a significant save to deny Simba SC a win.
