President of the Ghana Swimming Association (GSA), Theophilus Wilson Edzie has accused the media of being the brain behind the reckless spending on the Black Stars to the neglect of other national teams and sporting disciplines.

According to Mr. Edzie, the local media also gives too much attention to foreign sports than the local ones.

He said the attention is always on the Black Stars making the government to spend huge sums on them because they feel that is where the public interests lies.

“Yes, it is the media that spins the interest. If you spin a good interest, the repeal effect will come to you.You get more people to sponsor, you get more people to get involved and you will be rich at the end of the day as a Sports Journalist.”

“So you sometimes don’t blame the government too much because they think that is where the public interest is. So they have to spend there because that is where media attention normally duels,” he told Ghanacrusader Radio.

Ghanaians expressed outrage when a whopping US$4.5M was spent on the Black Stars of Ghana at the just ended Afcon competition in Egypt.
