Match Preview: Kotoko determined to beat Bechem United

Kumasi Asante Kotoko SC will be looking to halt their winless run when they host Bechem United FC at the Cape Coast Stadium on Sunday. The record league champions suffered a denigrating 3-1 defeat at the CAM Park to add their 0-1 reverse at the hands of their feared nemesis Accra Hearts of Oak.

A stupendous strike from Patrick Razak inflicted a 0-1 home reverse at the hands of Accra Hearts of Oak in match day before a landslide monumental collapse at the CAM park saw the Reds ceding 3 goals to the high flying Karela United FC. Sougne Yacouba registered a consolation strike for the misfiring Reds and showed signs of good things to come with some promising foot works to boot. The quick footed playmaker will have to add goals to his game if the goal shy Reds are to hunt down the Hunters at Cape Coast.

Boasting of the league’s most prolific marksman, Bechem United FC could not have asked for a better time to play the sinking Kotoko SC side. Inspirational forward, Hafiz Wontah Konkoni, racked home an impressive seven goals in as many matches to stay atop of the golden boot race. Three braces against Wa All Stars FC, Dreams FC and Elmina Sharks added to his golazo against Hearts of Oak as the lanky forward continue to terrorize defenders in the Ghana premier league. A goal against Kumasi Asante Kotoko will make him the first player to score against both Hearts and Kotoko SC in this current campaign.

Having forced a monumental comeback from a 3-0 deficit, Bechem United FC head into the fixture on the backdrop of a six goal thriller that eventually ended 3-3 at the Nana Gyeabuor Fosu Park. A three minute brace from leading marksman Hafiz Konkoni rescued a point for the Hunting host.

Bechem United FC have lost four of the last six league matches, Bechem United FC will be chasing only their second win against their Kumais based continental heavy weights.

Bechem United have scored three goals in the last six encounters with Kotoko, the latest in a 1-0 win over Paa Kwesi Faabin’s men in October 2017.

Kumasi Asante Kotoko have not scored more than one in the 35 of the last 43 league matches and have lost their last two league matches in successions.

The Kumasi based side have scored 9 league goals in 11 matches, allowing 11 in the process to stay tenth on the league log.

The Hunters meanwhile have scored an impressive 15 goals in their eleven league matches, allowing 14 in the same period.

A win for Kumasi Asante Kotoko SC could move them into third place with 17 points whiles Bechem United FC could take the second spot with an impressive win over their sinking host.
