Veteran football administrator, Nana Fitzgerald Barkers-Woode has attributed Ghana’s inability to qualify for the 2018 World Cup to the disunity and acrimony that exist among the top hierarchy of Ghana football.

Ghana’s failure to secure a fourth-successive World Cup has sparked a lot of controversy with accusing fingers being pointed at the players and Coach Kwesi Appiah but Nana Fitz believes the blame must be placed at the doorsteps of the GFA President and his vice.

According to Nana Fitz the dispute between the president of the Ghana Football Association and his vice, George Afriyie derailed Ghana’s pursuit for a fourth World cup.

“Unfortunately we were not able to qualify for the World Cup and that’s not the end of it. About two weeks ago FIFA gave room for international friendly matches and Ghana didn’t even have Kintampo to play with and no one is asking why. We did not have any friendly match and no one is asking why. We have the AFCON, we have a lot of things and no one is talking about them. Why did you think that we did not qualify for the World Cup? We did not qualify not because the players were not good, we did not qualify because there was management crisis”, he worryingly expressed.

It’s no secret that the Vice President of Ghana Football Association, George Afriyie has fallen out with his boss, Kwesi Nyantakyi.

The friendly and warm relationship that existed between the two men at the helm of Ghana football has been replaced by an acrimonious one with no sign of it being repaired in the near future.

There have been widespread reports of a fall out between Afriyie and his boss, with an alleged text message from George Afriyie to Nyantakyi being the last straw that broke the camel’s back.
