FIFA cannot oppress Ghana – coach Opeele fumes

Former coach of Asante Kotoko, Isaac Opeele Boateng, has taken a swipe at FIFA for attempting to oppress Ghana.

“FIFA cannot Oppress Ghana. They have no right to give a sovereign country like Ghana an ultimatum,” he fumed on Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show.

Opeeele’s comments are in relation to a letter written by FIFA warning the government of Ghana to withdraw the court action seeking to dissolve the Ghana Football Association by Monday, 27 August 2018 or face its wrath.

The World football governing body in that letter stated that it will ban the country from all football activities if the Attorney General does not discontinue its action of seeking to dissolve the GFA.

The Attorney General of Ghana went to court following revelations by investigative journalist, Anas Armeyaw where some officials and referees were caught on tape taking bribes.

But Opeele as he is popularly known, says ‘‘FIFA cannot threaten the government of Ghana to do anything’’.

“Ghanaians will not forgive the government if things are not put in place to ensure that we take part in the 2019 AFCON. This is the time for the government to give FIFA all the evidence they have gathered“, he said.

‘‘This is the time for Nana AKufo-Addo to prove to Ghanaians that he is incorruptible,’’ he added.

If the authorities fail to comply with this latest directive, Ghana would be handed a worldwide ban, meaning no club or national team can compete in international competitions.

The action will also prevent Ghana from hosting the Africa Women’s Championship which is scheduled to be held in the country from November.
