Crystal Palace manager praises Ayew after Newcastle victory

Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson has heaped praises on Jordan Ayew’s display against Newcastle United but claimed the Ghana striker feels frustrated.

The Eagles pipped Newcastle United 1-0 courtesy Patrick Van Aanholt’s strike on matchday 27 of the English Premier League at Selhurst Park on Saturday.

Despite not registering his name on the score sheet, Ayew has earned plaudits from Palace gaffer Hodgson over the manner he carried himself in the game.

The veteran trainer however remarked that the Ghana international cut a frustrated figure after the game.

"He had a wonderful game. He comes off a little bit disappointed. He wants to score goals. He knows that if he is ever going to be regarded as a top, top striker people are going to look at his goalscoring record."

"We've got to make sure we don't allow that type of thing to get him down in anyway because what he is doing for the team is immeasurable, really. But it would've been nice if he had capped that performance with a goal or maybe two goals, and then I think he would be bouncing around even more than I'm sure he is at the moment because he's a team player and he knows how much this victory meant to us as a team."

Ayew is Palace’s leading scorer in the ongoing league after hitting 6 goals and providing 1 assist in 26 appearances.
