Confederation Cup: Aduana promise to ‘kill off’ Fosa Juniors

With their hope so badly dashed in the CAF Champions League, Ghana Premier League champions, Aduana Stars are hoping their participation in the Confederation Cup will bring some smile and joy.

On Sunday, Aduana host Madagascar’s Fosa Juniors in the first leg of their elimination round of the competition and the GPL champions are promising to make amends as they are not ready for a second disappointment.

It looks like the champions are bent on recovering lost ground and have shown it in their 6-0 walloping of Inter Allies in their league game last Sunday, and coach Yusif Abubakar insists that free-scoring form will be their character, and that could be replicated against their guests on Sunday.

“We don’t know much about the Fosa Juniors but we have learnt our lesson from the CAF Champions League and we are going to take our chances. It will not just be sad but a huge embarrassment that we would allow a team from an unknown football nation to take us out of the competition.

“We are not being complacent, but certainly we are wiser now and we have learnt how costly not taking the chances we create can be. We are not letting down our guards on Sunday,” Coach Abubakar told the Graphic Sports in an interview.

"Gradually, the team is picking up more steadily and showing more toughness and character, that is how we want to be identified this season.
Aduana will indeed have to be wary of their guests who have been in town since last Tuesday, obviously, to settle down in time for the game.

The Malagasy have warned Aduana that they underrate them at their own risk as they may not be known, but have a team strong enough to push Ghana champions out.

The team advanced to this stage first beating Zambia’s AC Leopard on the away goal rule after their 1-1 and goalless draw games and went on to beat As Port Louis of Mauritius 3-0 on aggregate.

The second leg of this round will be played on April 18, with the eventual winners qualifying for the group stages.
