Cameroon names new national team coach
Rigobert Song replaces Antonio Conceicao
Song was preferred candidate of FA president Samuel Eto'o
Former Cameroonian international Rigobert Song is the new coach of the men's national team, the Indomitable Lions.
According to local media reports, he takes over the job effective immediately.
The former captain of the team replaces Antonio Conceicao who guided the team to third place at the African Cup of Nations, AFCON 2021 earlier this month.
There had been a reported rift as to whether Conceicao will continue as manager even though reports were rife that the football federation, FECAFOOT, president, Samuel Eto'o favoured the appointment of Song.
The immediate task ahead of him will be a two-legged World Cup play-off against Algeria in late March.
Song's playing career
Song played for Liverpool, West Ham, Metz, Lends and Galatasaray during his 16-year career.
He won 137 caps for Cameroon after having made his debut at the age of 17, including a gold medal at the 2000 Olympics.
He scored five goals in 137 appearances for Cameroon, playing in four World Cups since making his international debut on September 22, 1993, against Mexico.
