Hon. Fritz Baffour reveals big plans
to revive sports in Ablekuma South
Fritz Baffour, Honourable Member of Parliament (MP) of
Ablekuma South constituency in Accra has disclosed his determination to up
sports development and nurture potential stars into world beating sportsmen.
According to the MP who is also Minister of Information, his
administration have identified lack of facilities and motivation as main
problems hindering the enhancement of talents of many potential sportsmen in
the area.
They are therefore coming out to implement a number of
initiatives aimed at nurturing and enhancing sports talents to realize their
full potentials. First on the list is a soccer gala within two weeks involving the
ten (10) electoral areas in the constituency competing for a giant trophy whilst
procedures are also far advanced to begin works on a boxing training centre in
Chorkor.
“We have seen that this area has produced many sportsmen
footballers and boxers alike but we still don’t have the most basic facilities
to promote sports effectively. It’s so sad that despite the many boxers we have
in Chorkor, there is no gym to train them or even bring up more talents,” Hon.
Baffour lamented in an exclusive interview.
The Ablekuma South MP hoped: “We want to end that by
selecting some good talents in various sports disciplines and support them.
Whatever help they need and there is, we will give them to achieve their
targets. Obviously top on our priority list is the boxing gym which I
understand will soon start work on.”
Accordingly, the constituency’s youth and sports
sub-committee led by Hon. Wallace Nii Tackie-Komme, Assemblyman for Shiabu
electoral area have drawn a number of programmes to promote and ensure
development of various sporting disciplines aside boxing and football. But it
all begins with the football gala at Chorkor next week Saturday July 14.
Meanwhile, Hon. Fritz Baffour is expected to this Monday
July 2 formally launch his campaign for re-election as MP for Ablekuma South in
the 2012 general elections. The launch rally is slated for the T-Gardens
Filling station in Chorkor beginning 2pm.
