Anas created the impression that Agyapong's comment led to Ahmed's murder – Ablakwa

North Tongu lawmaker, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has expressed reservations about the way investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas, in his short video through which he announced the murder of his colleague investigator, Ahmed Hussein-Suale, created the impression that the 31-year-old was necessarily killed because of a months-old utterance made against him by Assin Central lawmaker Kennedy Agyapong.

Hussein-Suale was shot thrice on Wednesday, 16 January 2019 at Madina, a suburb of Accra while driving home around 10 p.m. His assailants made their getaway on a motorbike.

Shortly after Ahmed’s gruesome murder, the world-renowned investigative journalist pieced together a short video containing an old clip of Mr Agyapong’s incitement of violence against Mr Hussein-Suale last year after Tiger Eye PI premiered the Number 12 undercover documentary which exposed rot in African football that led to the resignation of Ghana’s FA president, Kwesi Nyantaki and his subsequent banning for life from all football-related activities by FIFA, for taking bribe.

Apart from inciting violence against Hussein-Suale, Mr Agyapong is also seen in the clip exposing the undercover journalist’s identity by splashing his photos on his NET2 TV station as well as on social media.

Speaking on the murder and its aftermath on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana programme on Friday, 18 January 2018, Mr Ablakwa said: “I must extend my condolences to Tiger Eye PI. Anas Aremeyaw Anas must be devastated at this point. We all know the good work that Anas and his team have done for this country and for the world at large.

“But the elephant in the room”, he continued, “has to do with my colleague member of parliament who went on a campaign with ‘Who watches the watchman’.



“The video which announced the death of this journalist created the impression as though it is confirmed that Honorable Kennedy Agyapong’s comments led to this.

“Honestly, I will urge a lot of calm and circumspection because the way the video was crafted created the impression as though because the Honourable Kennedy Agyapong made the comment, this incident happened.

“I thought that we could have been a bit more restrained. Let us not narrow the investigations. At this point, everybody and every object should be on the table and let us allow the investigators to carry out their work”, Mr Ablakwa said.

Mr Ablakwa noted that Mr Hussein-Suale’s “life can never be restored but we can all determine to ensure that justice is served in this matter”.



The opposition MP also said the recent spate of killings has created a sense of insecurity in the country.

“Ahmed Suale is only one of quite a number of incidents that have occurred this year alone. The year is less than three weeks old and yet we recall the very strange killing of the GPHA PR manager, Ms Asante. The police appear to be making some progress with the investigations.

“Just before this, a Deputy Managing Director of Ghana Water Company, who was travelling to his hometown; accounts indicated that he was also pulled out of his 4X4 vehicle and shot dead. This is early in the year and I am deeply worried. The family said he had money on him but the money was not taken, the car was not taken. This is clearly another case of assassination. So, what is going on?

“This is a sense of insecurity that is building up. We ought to see some resolution of all of these matters. I mean successful investigations. People should be put before the court and let us see justice.”
