Member of Parliament for Efutu, Alexander Afenyo Markin, says the Akufo-Addo government has so far proven that it deserves eight years in office.

According to him, the work done by the government in the last 20 months coupled with its determination is a demonstration that given another term, it could do better for Ghanaians.

“This government is determined and it is evident under previous NPP governments hence if given 8 years, could do better,’’ he claimed on TV3’s morning magazine show, New Day on Monday.

The government, he said, is committed to improving infrastructure while making education free and accessible to all, adding “We promised free SHS and they doubted us but we proved them wrong”.

In his estimation, persons who have been rating the government, will “commend us” on our commitment and consistency.

He said it is not all governments that capitalize on propaganda to run, noting the NPP has fulfilled most of its 2016 campaign promises.

Even though there were doubts about government’s Free Senior High School policy, it was implemented, and that measures are being put in place to ensure that infrastructure at most of these schools are improved.

Mr.Markin noted that the introduction of the Double Track System under the Free SHS policy shamed the NDC because the party thought the policy could not be sustained due to the large numbers that were recorded under the policy.

Government introduced the Double Track system to run some sort of a shift system for Senior High School students to make room for as many students as qualify to be enrolled.

“The NDC thought the Free SHS will fail in the second year due to the high number of students to be enrolled, and we brought the double track system. So now they have been put to shame.

“They were waiting to say we told you so,” he noted.

He went on to say that the government is proactively optimistic irrespective of the challenges with the implementation of the policy.

Felix Kwakye Ofosu however said the Akufo-Addo government must be voted out because “it peddled falsehood” to win power in the 2016 general election.

For him, nobody owes the NPP government 8 years.

“When the NPP was campaigning in 2016, they made promises in the context of 4 years not 8 years. When this government was in opposition, they condemned borrowing but they have developed a huge appetite for borrowing,” he said.
