Afoko was unfairly removed by people who wanted to take over the party – Crabbe

Former Second Vice Chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Sammy Crabbe still maintains that the indefinite suspension of the party’s elected National Chairman Paul Afoko was orchestrated by an ‘egoistic’ cabal in the party.

Mr. Crabbe continues to question the legality of the process and the constitution of body; the National Executive Council (NEC) that lead to Mr. Afoko’s indefinite suspension.

“We all went and we approved the constitution so one man or woman or group people can’t get up and insist to have it their way. They said they had something against the then Chairman Mr. Paul Afoko, then Disciplinary Committee, an inferior body not clothed authority writes to the First Vice Chairman suggesting that it convened a meeting. That contravenes our constitution.” he said

Although Mr. Crabbe has challenged the committee’s decision in court and lost, he is still of the firm belief that the Disciplinary Committee’s decision to suspend the three including himself was a subversion of the party’s laws.

“As far as he (Sammy Crabbe) is concerned, the decision to suspend persons including Paul Afoko, Kwabena Agyapong and himself was not a party decision but a plot by a group of persons he described as self-centred, to take over the helm of affairs of the party.”

“It was not the party that made up that decision, it was a bunch of people who think so highly of themselves they’ve got an ego and think they own this party and can do whatever they want. They have no business overthrowing executives who were elected by over 5000 delegates”.



It will be recalled that the suspension of the Sammy Crabbe follows a petition by some aggrieved party members who accused him together with Kwabena Agyepong of undermining the party’s authority by publicly rebelling against its decision to indefinitely suspend Mr Afoko.



Before the suspension, Mr Crabbe had refused to appear before the Disciplinary Committee after several invitations. He described the decision as illegal and minced no words in chiding the party’s leadership for constitutional breaches.
