Accam excited at MLS Playoff opportunity

Ghana’s David Accam says he is happy to be in the MLS playoffs with his team, Chicago Fire, and is hoping for success.

After a four-year absence, the Fire are back in the playoffs on the back of a good regular season which saw them finishing 3rd in the Eastern Conference.

Accam scored 14 goals this season and he is pleased with the chance to face New York Red Bull later this evening in the first knockout stage of the playoffs.

“Two years ago, we finished last in the conference and this season, we finished 3rd and for us, it is a great position. Everyone is excited about our match with New York on Wednesday.

I am happy with myself this season. I will not say I am excited but I am happy because getting to the playoffs is the ambition.

When I got here, that was what I wanted to do. I am only thinking about playing and I grateful for the opportunity. I am looking forward and there is nothing that will distract me.”

Ghana’s Jonathan Mensah, Harrison Afful and Mohammed Abu will be in action for Columbus Crew against Atlanta United while Latif Blessing is expected to play for Sporting Kansas City against Houston Dynamo.
