ASEPA report: NPP could lose 2020 elections - Lecturer

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo

A senior political lecturer at UCC says, the report by Alliance for Social Equity and Public Accountability [ASEPA], should be a wakeup call to government.

According to Mr Jonathan Asante Okyere, the NPP party should as well be alarmed with the survey report by the Think Tank on abysmal performance of some selected ministers and appointees without portfolios.

Speaking to Citizen Kofi on Ahotor FM’s Adekye Mu Nsem Thursday morning, he said, he is not surprised of the findings of the report.

The president and the NPP should have keen interest in the report else risk losing the 2020 general elections, he said.

The survey by ASEPA has been greeted with varied reactions by the public as well as many within the academia who are alarmed by the increasing spate of weak political relationship between government and the electorates.

The 2019 ASEPA assessment report of ministers of state under the Akufo Addo led administration is among many political researches which have been done by Think Tanks at some premier universities in the country.

Mr Asante Okyere says, the outcome of the report is worrying and suggested that president Akufo-Addo relieve his non-performing ministers of their posts.

He noted that some government appointees are arrogant and have poor human relations which in effect gives the government bad image.

According to Mr Okyere, the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori Atta is among the worst performing ministers.

Meanwhile, the executive secretary for ASEPA, Mr Mensah Thompson has disclosed that his team will furnish a draft copy of the findings to the Presidency for perusals and onward recommendations respectively.
