The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) will mount an air quality monitoring sensor at the Accra mall to provide timely and quality readings of air in the city.

This was disclosed by the Metropolitan Chief Executive Mohammed Adjei-Sowah at an event to mark World Environment Day in Accra.

According to the AMA boss, the sensor is to give citizens information on the quality of air in the city.

Mr Sowah said: “I’ve committed the city to a 50 per cent reduction of waste to landfill by 2025 hence the partnership with the private sector to realise these ambitious commitments. The construction of the waste recovery recycling and compost plant along the mortuary road is a testament of our commitment.

“Additionally, in collaboration with the University of Cape Coast, we’ll be installing an Air Quality Monitoring Sensor on top of this city hall [Accra Mall] to give citizens real-time information on the quality of air in and around the city to inform decision-making based on data".
