Former Ghanaian professional boxer, Azumah Nelson has shared that to reach a peak in life, one must be disciplined.

In an interview with Rev. Erskine on the Y Leaderboard Series show, he exemplified the importance of discipline in life with his boxing career.

“To become a winner, you need discipline. In boxing, if you want to win, you need to be humble and disciplined. You need to listen to whatever your coach tells you”, he said.

He related that before his fight with Wilfredo Gomez, he was tested by his opponent with beautiful ladies.

He admitted that it was really difficult to turn these ladies down because they looked like “angels” but because he was disciplined and focused on his fight, he was able to turn the ladies down.

“It was a plot to make me weak. If you are a man and you see these girls; they are so beautiful that you can’t say no. My bodyguards came to me and asked if I was expecting visitors and I said no. But when the ladies were told to go away, there was a lot of noise that I had to come out and turn them away. If they wanted to do something with me, they should have waited. As a professional, there are some things you should be able to do without. These girls were coming to take the energy from me before the fight.” he said

On December 8, 1984, Ghana’s Azumah Nelson won Ghana’s second world title in boxing after defeating Wilfredo Gomez to win the WBC featherweight strap at the Hiram Bithorn Stadium in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
