Three District Chief Executives and a Municipal Chief Executive under the Akufo-Addo-led government are battling for their lives after a fatal accident Monday morning in Tamale.

The four were part of delegations joining President Akufo-Addo to launch the latest government flagship initiative; “Rearing for Food and Jobs’ initiative in Wa when their vehicle was unfortunately crashed into by a Benz bus heading towards Tamale from Accra.

Addressing the media following the incident, Northern Regional Minister, Salifu Saeed explained that a Benz Bus travelling from Accra lost control and suddenly veered into the vehicle of Zabzugu DC, Ahmed Iddrisu Abukari, causing the vehicle to somersault.

Three of the four he noted, were badly injured and in critical condition, the fourth person; the Bimbilla MCE however sustained relatively minor injuries and is in a stable condition.

“We were going to join the President in Upper West, Wa, he is launching a new flagship policy dubbed ‘Rearing for food and jobs’ so we decided that we were going; we the regional ministers, DCEs and MCEs in the five regions will go and support him. We in the northern region decided that instead of using our vehicles individually, they should sit in fours and then we go”.

“So after the Datoyele police barrier at the Sanarigu Municipal Assemby, a benz bus from Accra, all of a sudden veered into the Zabzugu DCE’s vehicle and it got crashed and somersaulted, that resulted in the accident and three of the DCEs are in critical condition but the doctors are working to stabilize them. There were four in it, Zabzugu DCE, Gushegu DCE, Mion DCE and Bimbilla MCE”.

“Currently, all three DCEs are seriously affected but the doctors at the Tamale Teaching Hospital have succeeded in stabilizing their condition but they have advised that we shouldn’t send them, if not there is a team standing by at the airforce base to fly them to the 37 Military hospital. The Bimbilla MCEs situation is mild, better”, he added.

Mr. Saeed described the situation as unfortunate, noting however that health experts at the Tamale Teaching Hospital are doing their best to ensure the injured persons are restored to normalcy.

“We are in a serious prayer mood, that is what we can do as people who are not medical professionals to see what God can do and how the medical team can work and restore their lives to normalcy”, he stated.
