Amidu destroying himself through unnecessary media engagement – Edudzi Tamakloe

A Private legal Practitioner, Godwin Edudzi Tamakloe says Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu ought to engage the services of a Public Relation Officer(PRO) so as to limit his unnecessary media gaffe.

According to him, Mr Amidu’s media engagement wreaked havoc for his office cautioning him to try and take himself off the media space.

His comments follow a recent article published by Mr Amidu in which he urged Ghanaians to take a cue from his lifestyle and report suspicious payments into their bank accounts in order to avoid troubles.

Special Prosecutor Martin Amidu has revealed that some heavy amount of money in the past days were deposited in his bank account from an unknown source.

“On 3rd August 2018, I was amazed when I went to one of the branches of my Bank to make a cash withdrawal by cheque from my current account only to be informed that the balance to my credit on the account had leaped more than five-fold1from my last balance on 7th July 2018. My account had been credited on 19th July 2018 with a transferred payment.” he disclosed in his latest epistle.

Realising the development, Amidu claimed he instructed his bankers to return the unusual money credited to his account and trace the unknown payer.

“I immediately made a verbal objection to the Branch Manager where I had gone to make the withdrawal in view of my earlier standing instructions to my Branch Manager not to accept any payments or transfers into my account without first clearing with me personally owing to an earlier incident when a similar payment was transferred to the credit of my account without notice or authorization from me in 2015,” Amidu indicated in his article.

He warned public office holders and all Ghanaians against accepting suspicious payments of public funds into their bank accounts.

He said individuals are obliged to return any suspicious credit into their account and investigate the genuineness of such payments before accepting same.

But Mr Edudzi tamakloe said the Special Prosecutor somewhat misrepresented the facts in his narrative.

“It’s not a strange payment; No bank will pay you or deposit money in your account without putting a narration as to who is paying the money. So at the time that Mr Amidu wrote the article he knew in fact where the money was coming from. So this whole attempt to create an impression that the money was coming from an unknown source is neither here nor there. He knew that it was judgment debt paid by the government of Nana Akufo-Addo; why he’s afraid that he’s being paid judgment debt? He needs a PRO who’ll manage him. His constant media engagement is not helpful.” he told Accra-based Citi FM.
