PSWU Official lauds health insurance scheme

Sunyani B/A Sept 17, GNA - Mr. John Oppong, Industrial Relations Officer of the Sunyani branch of the Public Services Workers Union of the Trades Union Congress, on Thursday commended the government for introducing the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

He noted that the scheme was a form of collective agreement by the government to ensure quality health delivery in the country and said it was a worthy initiative taken by the government.

Addressing a general meeting of the branch Union in Sunyani, he said the NHIS was a laudable policy that would enable Ghanaians to have access to quality health delivery.

Mr. Oppong condemned the cash and carry system, which he said was a major factor for the high death rate in the country and advised Ghanaians to embrace the new policy.

He said to ensure its smooth running, the NHIS would be networked and computerized and auditors and oversight committees would be appointed to ensure its efficient and effective running.

The Industrial Relations Officer announced that a National mapping exercise would be conducted to identify and help the needy to pay the premium.

Mr. Oppong announced that the PSWU in the municipality would organize a two-day workshop to sensitize public workers on the new Labour Act in October and urged all workers to attend.
