The mortal remains of Nana Tweneboah-Boateng, Sanaahene of Akyem Anyinam Traditional Area in the Eastern Region was laid to rest at the Oyoko Royal Family Mausoleum at the weekend.

Nana Tweneboah-Boateng who until his demise on February 27, this year was the Senior Technical Advisor to the Minister of Trade and Industry, Mr Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, for whom he provided critical direction on Government’s major projects as far as trade and industry was concerned.

Among the high profile personalities who attended the funeral were President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Ministers of State, large contingent of Traditional Rulers including the Royal Ameyibor Family of Peki Avetile led by Togbe Victor Ameyibor, Business Executives, and New Patriotic Party members.

Other dignitaries included Chief Executive Officers from the various Metropolitan, Municipal and District assemblies (MMDAs), representatives from the various political parties, delegation from the Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Trade, EMPRETEC Ghana, and Religious leaders led by the Reverend Dr Okoe Abbey, Acting Moderator, Presbyterian Church of Ghana.

In a tribute to his departing son, 97-year-old, Adinkraba Karikari Appau Boateng, said: “Emmanuel Kofi Tweneboah-Boateng had the amazing gift of making every person he comes into contact with instantly comfortable through the show of love, charisma, and generosity”.

The widow, Mrs Margret Tweneboah-Boateng (Nee Margret Ameyibor) recounted how the two met at EMPRETEC Ghana where she had gone for business advice.

“I met my husband in 1997 when I went to Empretec Ghana for assistance to run my business Excel Industries Limited, which was expanding beyond my managerial capacities.

“Nana was the first person I met and even though he was not the officer supposed to give me the assistance, he gave me a lengthy lecture about it and then directed me to the one in charge.

“Empretec came to my aid. After a few weeks, Nana called to see how I was faring and then followed up to Excel office and encouraged me to work hard. Nana’s continuous visits to my company resulted in a beautiful relationship”.

According to Mrs Tweneboah-Boateng “in 1998, Nana proposed to me, I replied in the negative and his response was, ‘Wo nsuro Nyame,’ meaning ‘You don’t fear God? After sometime Nana went to see my family and we got married”.

Mrs Tweneboah-Boateng, who is the Chief Executive Officer of Excel Industries Limited, described Nana as a Counsellor, Director, Consultant, Accountant, father and friend.

The children, Mrs Abena Osei-Asare nee Tweneboah-Boateng, Deputy Minister of Finance; Mrs Elsie Darley Owusu; Kwame Karikari Tweneboah-Boateng; Kofi Ofori Tweneboah-Boateng; in a tribute said “You encouraged us that there was no end to what one could do once you set your body, soul and spirit to it and gave your all.

“Daddy loved all things traditional and was in tune with culture and his root as a traditional ruler. We celebrate you as magnificent man, devoted father and a true friend who always taught us that the true essence of and strength of a man is how he responds to trials and tribulations.”

Other tributes were from the grandchildren, brothers and sisters, cousins, nephews, nieces, in-laws, Immanuel Presbyterian Church, Madina-Accra, Anyinam Presbyterian Church-Victory Congregation, and Association of Apparel Manufacturers.

The rest were Empretec Fraternity, Prempeh College Old Boys, Nana Agyapong II, Amankrado on behalf of the Anyinam Stool, and Royal Oyoko Clan.

Nana Tweneboah-Boateng’s profile obtained by the Ghana News Agency indicated that, born on March 1, 1952, attended Prempeh College in 1965.

In October 1972, Nana entered University of Ghana, and was a resident of Akuafo Hall; in 1975 Nana Tweneboah-Boateng earned bachelor’s degree in Economics and Sociology from the University of Ghana.

Nana was elected as the President of the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS). Nana was a great footballer.

Nana’s professional carrier started in 1975 as a Personnel Manager at the Black Star Line; in 1982 joined the Rokana Industries of Nigeria as a Director of Administration; and returned to Ghana in 1987 to set up Landed Farm.

In 1996 Nana Tweneboah-Boateng served as Executive Secretary of Empretec Business Forum, which was part of the Global Network of Empretec Organisations under the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).

From 2002 to 2006, Nana served as Project Coordinator for Garments and Textiles under President Kufuor’s Special Initiatives; in June 2006, Nana returned to Empretec as the Chief Executive Officer; and in 2017, joined the Ministry of Trade and Industry as a Senior Technical Advisor to the sector Minister.
