Former Presidents Jerry John Rawlings and John Mahama have been captured shaking hands in parliament during President Nana Akufo-Addo’s second State of the Nation Address which he presented on Thursday, 8 February.

A smiling Mr Mahama is seen shaking a serious-faced Mr Rawlings who was seated by former First Lady Nana Konadu.

A similar thing happened at the 25th anniversary of 4th Republic Celebration held at the Independence Square on Sunday January 7, 2018 where Rawlings and Mahama in a video shook hands hurriedly without exchanging any pleasantries.

Former President John Mahama however in an interview with Abdul Hay Mooomen on the state on GTV on January 9 2018 explained that there is no feud between him and former President Jerry Rawlings.

He explained that having worked with the founder of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for a long time, he understands his mood swings.

“Sometimes he’s in a mood where he doesn’t want to engage in any conversation and so recently at the Thanksgiving; they were giving all kinds of interpretation to the handshake. There are occasions where he comes and you don’t know what mood he is in, he greets military style and passes but there are on some other occasions, I met him in Kpando and we had a very warm handshake and we exchanged pleasantries.
