President Akufo-Addo has asked the traditional authorities in Bawku in the Upper East Region to maintain the current peace in the area.

The President made this call when addressing the Bawku Naba Asigri Abugrago II and several other chiefs from the Bawku Traditional Area who paid courtesy call on him at the seat of government, the Flagstaff House, on Thursday, November 2.

Mr Akufo Addo noted that without peace, all developmental plans of government for the area may not be implemented.

He further assured the chiefs of his continued support to help maintain peace and order in the Bawku Traditional Area.

He used the occasion to appeal to the chiefs to join the fight against smuggling of products meant for the Planting for Food and Jobs Policy.

Adding that the fertiliser and other items provided for farmers in the Bawku area is not meant for Burkina Faso nor Togo, and that those who are allowed to smuggle them end up enriching themselves at the expense of the whole of the Ghanaian populace.

Meanwhile, in a speech read on his behalf, the Bawku Naba Asigri Abugrago II thanked the President for his efforts so far at maintaining the peace in their area. He pledged that he, together with all the chiefs of the area, will do all within their power to maintain a peaceful Bawku.
