I have known a lot of first class students who cannot toast a slice of bread without setting the house on fire.

It appears Prof Alabi, who holds a Yoruba name, does not have deep knowledge in how nature works. Nature has bestowed on every human brain and time. It is how you use and condition the brain that bring quantum results. If you spend your time and efforts studying other people's general philosophy, it will initially appear you are brilliant in class but at the end, you will end up being narrow minded and if care is not taken and you happen to be a teacher, you start thinking like the very children you teach. Prof Alabi's assertion also makes me believe he belongs to the old stock who believe in leadership by trait. This idea is archaic and outmoded. Currently, in civilized societies, leaders are made, whether academically brilliant or not, and depends on the individual availing themselves for mentoring. Prof Alabi is socialist oriented. These are the red-headed guys who believe that leadership is by destiny and so you must accept whatever situation you find yourself. The youth must not listen to Prof Alabi since he can lead them astray.

Evil in our society prevents our first class from getting to the top in the first place. Corruption and wickedness in our society has been the cause. Just conduct a proper research on this issue.

The question is not whether intelligent and skilled scholars make good leaders. The issue is whether their solutions and their informed suggestions are used by those who lead. Many of them are not leading for sure, but their skills are being used by other countries because our 3rd class politicians see no use for them.

The whole argument is based on false premises. Anyone can become a good leader. In fact the opposite is likely to be true. Smart guys posses both innate and acquired intelligence to lead

The fact is Ghana's university education is not transparent. People make good grade out of favoritism. UCC for example always failed brilliant students and passed average students with good classes.
