The truth of the matter is that there was a special interest in the corridor of power in the IMF who were assured that the npp believes in the market economy unlike the ndc and will and operate better within their conditionalities at the expense of Ghana.
Remenber that the modus operandi of this government and its tradition had being in sabotaging any socialist government of Ghana since independence.Sadly the western institutions go along with these message and always try to prop up the UP tradition

A govt that is abolishing and reducing taxes and yet set to increase revenue and reduce deficit is worth supporting than a govt that is taxing every thing under sun to burden its citizens and at same time increasing debt. A lot has happen to this country in 100 days to increase investor confidence in the economy. The previous govt. left an economy in tatters. All economic indices were just bad. Give the new Govt credit for how it has handled the economy so far.

Interesting article, Philip. But , truth be told, politics and business cannot be dissociated from each other. So there is always the need to court goodwill by our acts and actions to please our financiers. Hard facts, right?
So , if financiers were of the opinion that there was no justification for advancing funds many factors came into play for sabotage or refusal?
But , the events leading into 2016 elections were terrible...the massive corruption to contend with, compromising deals...which are still litigated, the international community was abreast with the level of corruption in the country... What the current govt must do is to take a leaf from the past govt experience and avoid all the pitfalls...If they fail to do so, they might fall into the same trap...

Foreign Investors are not stupid. They need to be assured that the economy is in competent hands. How will an economy being managed by people like Ato Forson and co who have not even rented a chamber and hall before convince foreign investors to part with their money. NDC need big brains which sadly they don't have.

If you can think critically with a small brain, you will do well.
Hon Ato Forson is one of our most intelligent thinkers and finest brains. You only need to read his articles to appreciate his perception and wisdom in analysing issues. He helped Hon Seth Terkper to manage our economy. Npp are reaping the benefits of the sound management of our economy under the Mills and Mahama admins.
For the first time in recent years, we have a healthy trade surplus. This did not happen by chance - it is the consequence of prudent economic management and massive investment in our economic infrastructure under President Mahama.
We do not need foreign investors to develop our economy. 60 years after gaining independence from the colonialists, we should be investing in our economy ourselves.

They have trumpeted the dire straits of our economy over the past years only to get into power on this crescendo of lies, and reap the benefits of the sound investments made by the Mahama and Mills admins.
Ghanaians, are of course, discerning. They know and see for themselves the massive, infrastructural development undertaken by the Mahama admin unprecedented in Ghanaian history since Nkrumah.
They are astute enough to see through the gimmicks, political chicanery and indiscipline of the NPP vigilantes.
To Nana Addo we say that you can fool all the people some of the time, you can fool some people all the time, but you cannot fool everybody all the time!

We do need people to speak up sometimes. In respect of this article on the economy you have to put you argument within a historical perspective. The IMF sings from your song book i.e. based on the data you present. Hence they did exactly the same thing in 2001 and 2009 i.e. between the changes in governments from NDC to NPP and then from the NPP to the NDC. In the case of the latter, they did praise worshipping of the NPP government in November and suddenly switched to condemnations of the economy the day after the first round of the elections.
What you miss in your argument is that the World Bank and the IMF are not charitable organisations. They are businesses that are constantly sniffing round for clients, as all businesses do. What do you expect from them when a client voluntarily shows up at their doors begging them to take over their economy and run it so that they can rob off the IMF's shine to have some "policy credibility"?. In short, the NDC had no business sending Ghana back to the IMF after the NPP had fought so hard in its first term to take Ghana off those shackles. Had Seth Tekper and the NDC listened to the warnings that Bawumia freely gave them, you wouldn't have been pained to write this piece. They simply had no clue on what was happening until the economy was on its death bed; and all who lived in Ghana, except the dat feeding NDC folks, saw, knew and felt the slow death of the economy and themselves. You never felt it.
And by the way, we know you. You are no apolitical analyst; you are a known NDC sympathiser. Come straight out, man.
