The best of helps the former president can give to his party is to abstain judging by the humiliating defeat the party endured under him.As humanbeings we are not infallible but what is certain is that Mahama lacks leadership qualities.He lacks the key ingredients of honesty,integrity and selflessness.Most of the problems in the NDC were created by him because of his insatiable appetite for power,money and material wealth.Some unscrupulous characters including the likes of Akamba took full advantage of the president divisive and discriminative posture to create factions for their narrow parochial interest.The so-called pro-mahama group were the ones who pitched the president against key party functionaries including foot soldiers who were largely neglected.Unfortunately at the blind side of the ex-president they were also his avowed enemies who pretended to like him just because of what the stood to benefit.Of course mahama's conduct and behaviour in targeting,victimizing,brutalizing and oppressing others within the party particularly those perceived to be linked with the Founder JJ Rawlings was the worse of mistake.Even if there was a viscious attempt by the former president to create his own power base in an attempt to render Jerry Rawlings redundant,it would have been prudent to work with perceived enemies loyal to the course of the party rather than so-called trusted friends with questionable loyalty hinged on personal satisfaction much to the detriment of the party.The president intolerant and vindictive tendencies towards constructive criticism was his bane.His lust for praise singing made him extremely vulnerable to dubious characters who were only singing his dirge and mocking at him behind the scenes.Until the bombshell on December 7th,he himself did not know the magnitude of resentment and anger at his government by the people including his party functionaries.Corruption under his government with knowledge of the president himself was so bad that even people who sponsored and campaigned for him became victims of corruption brutalities.The government reaction was to blackmail and further oppress them in typical instances of gross abuse of fundamental rights of persons which simply meant rule of law was not even existing under the Mahama regime.
